Sony State of Play is a semi-regular digital event, which showcases the latest and greatest PlayStation news, updates, reveals and announcements.
Since the showcase began in 2019, Sony has used State of Play to reveal The Last of Us 2 release date, debut gameplay footage for Ghost of Tsushima, and drop new trailers for games including Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Returnal. So it’s always worth tuning in to the State of Play livestreams if you want to be alerted to any big announcements for PS5 games, PSVR games and PS4 games.
Sony has confirmed its next State of Play will be held on October 27 and, according to the company, will focus on “announcements and updates for upcoming third-party releases headed to PS5 and PS4”.
Read on for what we know so far about Sony’s State of Play event on October 27 and what we expect to see.
When is the next Sony State of Play?
Sony has confirmed that its next State of Play event will take place on October 27 at 2pm PT / 10pm BST / 5pm ET (or October 28 at 8am AEDT).
The showcase will last 20 minutes and will focus on announcements, updates and new looks at previously-announced third-party releases headed to PS5 and PS4. You can watch the showcase live on Twitch and YouTube.
What can we expect from the next Sony State of Play?
Sony’s confirmation that this State of Play will focus on third-party games coming to PS4 and PS5 means that we shouldn’t expect to see upcoming first-party titles like God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West or Gran Turismo 7 at this event.
With the event only set to last 20 minutes, and featuring several games, we think it’s more likely that we’ll get smaller updates on confirmed upcoming titles such as Call of Duty: Vanguard, Battlefield 2042, Stray, Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker expansion or maybe even GTA 5 on PS5.
If we’re lucky, Final Fantasy 16 or Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 will make an appearance, but we’re not holding our breath – as this is pretty wishful thinking on our part and likely wouldn’t happen at a State of Play, and would stead be reserved for a main PlayStation Showcase.
Essentially, there are plenty of PS5 and PS4 games that could make an appearance at Sony’s next State of Play, but we would temper expectations as to just how big any of these announcements or updates might be.
What was revealed at the last Sony State of Play?
Sony’s last State of Play took place on July 8 and focused on Deathloop, giving us an even more in-depth look at gameplay and what players will be faced with when it launches. We also saw several indies too, with trailers for Sifu and Moss 2.
While not officially a State of Play, Sony hosted the PlayStation Showcase, on September 9, which not only showed off new details for God of War: Ragnarok but revealed brand new titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine too.
